Computers in College: Using the Internet for Education

A huge part of education is now focused online. Classes, information, ideas, tests, essays, etc. can all be done online, now.

Above is a digital art drawing of me using a laptop.

In today's world, students have begun to use the internet for educational purposes. Ravenwood High School provides us with Chromebooks to use during the school year, because we utilize Schoology, Google Drive, and other platforms to do work. We write essays online, take courses online, etc. This year, I am taking Personal Finance online and I am dual-enrolling at Columbia State with online English 101 and 102 courses. I use my Chromebook everyday at school and outside of school for many projects.

Using a Computer in College

In the Fall of 2022, I will be attending the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in their Chancellor's Honors Program. My intended major is Political Science with a minor in Public Policy. I have enjoyed being involved with policy making during my four years at Ravenwood through Model United Nations and Youth In Government. I realized in the last year that I appreciate the fast paced environment of government and the problem solving skills that it requires. That is why, I am ecstatic to go into political science.

A big part of college is doing things online. Just like high school, courses can be offered online. After 2020, there was a huge push to move school work more online. In the last couple years, the internet has been the main source for student information. Having a computer in college would allow me to access my student portal (MyUTK), take online classes if I needed to, and do school work. Additionally, my computer would come with me everywhere. Whether it's researching a new bill or going to study at the library, having a device that is capable of holding all my school needs is essential.
